Can I change employer during CPT?
CPT authorization cannot be back-dated, and your employment/internship is limited to your CPT authorization dates and employer. If you wish to extend your CPT, add an employer, or change employers, you must submit an updated CPT application at least 2 weeks beforehand.
How many times can I use CPT?
Students can apply for Curricular Practical Training as many times as their program requires, however only one CPT employment opportunity is allowed at any given time. The application/approval process is required for each Curricular Practical Training employment opportunity.

Yes, the government has given temporary regulations stating that students may work remotely (even from abroad) with CPT authorization. Students must still enroll in their department’s CPT course and obtain CPT authorization from Bechtel.
Can I be self employed on OPT?
Students on OPT may start a business and be self-employed. The student must be able to prove that he or she has the proper business licenses and is actively engaged in a business related to the student’s degree program.
Can I hire someone with an F 1 visa?
No. Federal regulations permit the employment of international students on F‐1 and J‐1 visas within certain limits. These visas allow students to work in jobs related to their major field of study. F‐1 students can work on “practical training.” J‐I students may work on “academic training.”
