For most medical school schools, there is no strict expiration date for your prereqs. These schools might just want you to add some upper-level classes before applying, so they have something recent to judge from.

Can an F be removed from your transcript?
Some schools allow students to petition to have a grade removed from use in calculating the cumulative GPA, but the record of the class is not withdrawn from the transcript. If the student’s petition is granted, the F grade will be replaced by FZ on the transcript to show that it has been expunged.
Can you get into med school with an F on your transcript?
You can get in with an F. You can get in with a W. If you have a LOR from another prof in the same semester or who has known you throughout who will mention your situation, it will recover it. I have a W and 3 C’s on my transcript and got into USC, so don’t feel like your med school hopes are over.
Does retaking a class replace an F?
In many schools, if a student retakes a course, the most recent grade will replace the lower grade in the student’s GPA. Obviously, your student will need to retake a course in which they have received an F if that course is a required course or a required prerequisite for another course which they need.
