How does TSI PortaCount work?

The Portacount works by measuring the concentration of microscopic dust particles in the ambient air and then measuring the concentration of those dust particles that leak into the respirator. The ratio of these two concentrations is called the fit factor.

What is PortaCount testing?

The TSI Portacount is the most widely used and trusted Quantitative Fit Test method. The Portacount provides a direct assessment of respirator fit by comparing the concentration of ambient dust particles outside the facepiece to the concentration of particles that have leaked into the facepiece.

How does quantitative fit testing work?

A quantitative fit test (QNFT) can be used to fit-test any tight-fitting respirator. It involves using an instrument to measure leakage around the face seal and produces a numerical result called a “fit factor.” A respirator’s assigned protection factor (APF) is only valid if the respirator fits correctly.

How does PortaCount fit testing work?

It uses the microscopic particles that exist in ambient air to measure the fit factor directly. The PORTACOUNT measures the concentration of these par- ticles around the person’s head and then measures the concentration of those particles that leak into the respirator. The ratio of these two numbers is the fit factor.

How is a respirator fit test done?

A quantitative fit test (QNFT) can be used to fit-test any tight-fitting respirator. It involves using an instrument to measure leakage around the face seal and produces a numerical result called a “fit factor.” Any PPE that could interfere with the respirator’s seal must be worn during the fit test.

How many portacounts can a fit tester test?

Group fit testing allows administrators to test up to four personnel with four PortaCounts simultaneously. TSI has redesigned every aspect of the PortaCount Fit Tester’s FitPro™ Ultra software. An all new user interface and industry-first features combine to create the most powerful fit test instrument available.

How does the PortaCount respirator fit tester 8040 work?

PortaCount Fit Tester Model 8040 provides a consistent and objective testing experience across respirator types equipped with ≥99% efficient filters. FitCheck® Mode shows in real-time how respirator fit changes throughout donning and adjustment, helping users select the right mask and identify the best fit more quickly.

What happens to the results of a TSI test?

The test results load into a database for retrieval and regulatory compliance. From quantitative fit testing equipment to mask integrity testing equipment, TSI helps you comply with regulated standards to ensure your workers’ respiratory safety.
